The core difference is responsibility
Booking software and a done-for-you booking service can use similar technology underneath. The meaningful difference is who is responsible for turning the technology into a working business system.
With SaaS, the vendor builds the product and you operate your account. With DFY, the provider takes on more of the configuration, implementation and ongoing maintenance work.
Choose booking SaaS when…
- You enjoy configuring software and want direct control over every setting.
- You want a large catalog of built-in features immediately.
- You prefer standardized workflows and documentation.
- Your time cost for setup and maintenance is low.
Choose done-for-you when…
- Your time is better spent serving clients than managing tools.
- Your booking rules or brand experience need more tailoring.
- You want one party responsible for website + booking + maintenance.
- You value personal implementation over access to the largest feature list.
Do not compare only the monthly number
A $30 software subscription and a $49 managed service are not buying the same kind of responsibility. Compare subscription cost, setup time, add-ons, marketplace or payment fees where applicable, website costs, maintenance time and the value of support.
OFFLOAD position: we do not argue that DIY SaaS is always unfair or always worse. We argue that an owner who does not want to run the software deserves a different option.
